Technical: FAQs

What is the production method?
The printing system is called Flexographic and involves the use of a synthetic rubber roller on which the image to be printed is laser engraved.

The roller is continuous and then prints the sublimation ink onto paper, which is later heat transferred onto the Customer fabric.

How do I heat transfer paper onto my fabric?
Using a rotary heat transfer machine will enable continuous feed of paper rolls and fabric.

Such machines have adjustable temperature, speed and pressure to facilitate different fabric types and yarn mixtures.

There are several machine builders around the world, the one we recommend is available from:

Monti Antonio S.P.A., Italy

How accurate is colour?
Our Pre-press department is staffed by personnel with over 20 years experience in colour.

Providing we are supplied with customer fabric we can mix and match colour to ensure total satisfaction.

We use a spectrophotometre to measure colour accuracy and work with many major organisations to strict colour specification.

All work is matched to a specific light source in dark room light box conditions.

Is temperature critical?
The printed colour and depth is created at standard conditions of 205°C with 25 seconds dwell time.

The heat transfer machine used needs to have a calibrated and well-controlled thermostat to ensure heat source and print cylinder are maintained at a constant set temperature, to avoid any variation in print colour.

What is the best format for sending artwork?
We can work from any image, sketch, bromide or colour copy, but ideally and to save time the format attached is ideal - download our artwork format guide [PDF 600kbytes].

We plan to periodically expand our FAQ section to include interesting issues and experiences.
